New Protocol Improves Knee Replacement Recovery
by: Dr. Yuvraj Kumar
Director - Orthopedics & Joint Replacement

Patients often delay knee replacement surgery due to many reasons. While one is lack of information, the other reasons that patient delay for knee replacement surgery includes fear of loosing a body part, fear of post-operative surgery pain and fear of stitches. Patients want to know what their life will be like after their surgery, how much discomfort they will continue to have.
Informs Dr Yuvraj Kumar, Director, Orthopedics & Joint Replacement, QRG Health City, The desire to avoid surgery at all cost leads a patient to try other treatment modalities that do not involve surgery, some of which may not be scientifically proven. They end up spending money on therapies that have no real benefit.
Traditionally, knee replacement surgery has been viewed as a very painful procedure. But with the advent of new technology, post operative pain episodes have declined. The joint replacement department at QRG Health City has started using a new approach that reduces the pain and swelling within the joint for a faster recovery with minimal pain so that one can return to near normal function as early as possible.
Pain is a very individualized problem and varies from patient to patient. Some of our patients have even astonished us citing immediate relief and enhanced mobility, says Dr Yuvraj
The surgeons at QRG Health City specialise in reducing the amount of trauma to the knee by using methods that allow the knee replacement to be inserted in the least invasive way. This involves a combination of surgical techniques to reduce disruption to the soft tissues around the knee and lessen the postoperative pain, as well as using specialised instruments that lessen trauma to the knee joint.
Says Dr Yuvraj, With our new approach, we have seen that by three months, most people resumed normal activities and by six months, most people reported no significant pain or only minor pain around the joint. A knee replacement can take up to one year to completely recover.
QRG Institute of Orthopedics & Joint Replacement includes:
